Chelsea still chasing Palermo's Pastore

Chelsea are still pursuing Javier Pastore but face competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid, Palermo have confirmed.

The Argentina star has caught the eye of the managerless Blues as they look to add a creative force to their midfield, with Tottenham's Luka Modric another reported target.

Palermo are aware of Chelsea's interest in 22-year-old Pastore, but claim La Liga giants Barca and Real are also gunning for his signature.

"Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona want Pastore," Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini was quoted as saying in The Sun.

"I told his agent to see what market there is for the player and he has probably spoken to some clubs.

"At the end of the week we will meet to shed a bit of light on the future of the player."

Zamparini has slapped a €50million (£44m) price tag on Pastore, who is contracted at Palermo until 2014, and is thought to be unwilling to sell him to a rival Serie A club.

However, Palermo's asking price will be met by at least one club, according to the player's agent.

"Zamparini has said at which price he would be willing to sell Pastore and I believe without a doubt, that he will be sold on those figures," Pastore's agent Marcelo Simonian told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Pastore joined Palermo in 2009 from Huracan for 19million euros and was the team's leading scorer in Serie A this season with 11 goals.

He is under contract with Palermo until June 2015.
